San Diego Tech Founders

Fight Club for Founders

Hi all -

I want to get the conversation going before our meeting on Thursday night (July 16). If you've started a company, we'd like to know how you met your co-founder(s). If you are interested in starting a company, what are you doing to find a co-founder?

Looking forward to meeting you all on Thursday.

Mike

I had decided to pursue my idea of a travel-related website that helps people plan, travel & share, but I didn't know any developers.

At the 2007 Managing Innovation conference in San Diego I ran into Paul Webber in one of the breakout sessions. Paul was/is the President of the San Diego Java Users Group, and he said he'd be interested in helping me find someone that could be a lead developer. He ended up introducing me to two people, one of which was June Clarke, who besides being a s/w team leader at SAIC, was also the co-chair of eXtreme Programming San Diego.

June was looking for her next challenge, and I liked her background and work philosophies, so she came on board as our Technical Co-Founder. This all happened over just a couple of months, and I think there was some good luck/timing involved, but it also helped that I was running into helpful people at various professional gatherings.

Great story, Ronald - thank you for telling it. That was good luck indeed - and you know what they say about luck and hard work.

Hopefully there will be some great co-founder relationships emerging from the SD Tech Founders network.

I'm looking forward to meeting you tomorrow and hearing about Where's URL.
